Ending up in Club Salsa was not something I expected. But once Liam and I reached the Anchor Pub to join Cyrille and his colleagues, that was the decision reached. With us were six of Cyrille’s soon-to-be ex-colleagues and a spouse. Sergio and Nat were to have met up with Cyrille some time during the evening, but their paths never came together. It was Cyrille’s party so it was his decision. Three nights in a row! For Liam too. I suspect that it would not have happened had Cyrille went to Club Salsa last night with us.
It seemed quiet when we arrived. Vishal was away on another DJ assignment at one of the colleges. Demetrios explained that it was considerably quieter than usual. As the evening progressed, it did get more crowded although not to the usual standard to my understanding. Another opinion seemed to be that it wasn’t quite as good without Vishal as the DJ. It was quite interesting to see that many of the regulars for Saturdays are the same as every other night.
Music was heavy into Reggaeton. Merengue and Salsa were played in approximately equal measure. There was some miscellaneous Latin music played as well. No Bachata or Cha Cha. As for the Salsa selection, it’s commercial and predictable.
I wasn’t expecting to dance much – in fact I was half expecting to not dance at all. It would have come to pass if the place closed at 2 AM as normal. However, Vish came back at 2, and Cyrille talked him into keeping the place open for another hour. The only woman in the party received a “Salsa lesson” from a predictable yet still surprising source. Liam was asked to dance a couple of times, and as for Cyrille – perhaps it’s fair to say that he has an admirer. I actually thought that his best dance tonight was a Merengue.
Probably the best dance display came off a dance-off between Cyrille and Liam after 2 AM – each trying to outshine each other.
I did end up having one dance with a visitor from Luton – a nice couple from there was visiting this weekend.
