Casino Rueda with Helen & Rhona - Beginners #3

March 31, 2005

We concentrated on al medio stuff with old familiar Kentucky being an exception. Number of followers has increased to 3 today (compared to 2 for last week and 3 for the first week). For all 3 weeks, I was the only new student among the leaders. Small classes are good (although you do need at least 4 and preferrably 6 people or more for Rueda).

Kentucky
1,2,3 swing to left to prep on 1, wrap partner (L hand high initially and R hand low) counterclockwise 360 while moving to left side of circle - stay close to partner located on right and look at her on 3,4
5,6,7 move to right side of circle while leading partner to left - L hand goes to partner's L shoulder - R hand could be medium or medium high - look at partner on 7,8
1,2,3 lead partner forward with my R arm on 1 and turn partner 180 counterclockwise on 2,3 - my R hand should be on my L shoulder by 5 - I should also be on the left side of circle - look at partner on 3,4
5,6,7 turn counterclockwise 360 - (my R hand on my left shoulder and R-L makes a neck wrap) look at partner on 7,8
1,2,3,5,6,7 Dile que no finish

dame al medio
1,2,3,5,6,7 dame (change partner)
1,2,3 walk to center and back (clap twice (on 1,2?))
5,6,7 (probably walk back and to place) let partner walk to center and back

enchufe al medio
1,2,3,5,6,7 enchufe start and move to next partner
1,2,3 walk to center and back (clap twice (on 1,2?))
5,6,7 (probably walk back and to place) let partner walk to center and back

rosa/flor - while doing "al medio"
1,2,3 walk to center and back (and outstretch hands lower to touch nearest leaders and bring both hands up for make rose/floral pattern while near center)
5,6,7 let partner (follower) do the same in turn

hombres/mujeres (or chicas) derecha/izquierda (con manos) - while doing "al medio"
-hombres (men) followed by derecha (right) or izquierda (left)
1,2,3 walk to center and back to displace another leader on right with derecha
1,2,3 walk to center and back to displace another leader on left with izquierda
-con manos (with hands)
do above and touch nearest (on both sides) leader's hands when you're near center of the circle
-mujeres (or chicas... means women or girls) followed by derecha or izquierda
same only for followers and done on 5,6,7

treinta tres (33)
This is simply "hombres" - "derecha", followed by "mujeres" - "izquierda" done 3 times without a break. Clap when completed.

cero - while doing "al medio"
1,2,3,5,6,7 Cuban wheel walk around follower on right (1 is L foot over in front R foot, 2 side to R, 3, back, 5 R foot over behind L foot, 6 side to L, 7 slightly forward
1,2,3 continue "al medio"

end "al medio" with Dile que no/No on 1,2,3,5,6,7 with a follower on your right (this is very similar to doing a dame).

Getting used to Cristian & Dee Intermediate

March 30, 2005

closed hold
1,2,3,5,6,7 cross body lead ending with open hold [note. their stylization is probably left hand down and towards partner on 1, back to waist level for 2,3, down and pointing across on 4 ... also Dee wants my R hand on her shoulder blades]
1,2,3 prep for next move by swinging both hands low (to left then right then up)
5,6,7 with both hands up, both walk around (counterclockwise for me)
1,2,3 on 1 prep by swinging L hand high, then do a wrap (turn partner counterclockwise 180) with L hand high and R hand low end with L still high and stiff
5,6,7 lower partner using both hands and force her backwards (positioned behind and to right of myself)
1,2,3 push partner back on 1 (as I step forward), pull partner forward back to my side on 2,3 (and if anything slightly ahead of myself) - watch out to avoid hitting partner's head
5,6,7 pull slightly with R hand (on partner's waist) and with L hand high to turn partner 1 1/2 clockwise
1,2,3 get into cross body postion (L hand lowered on 1)
5,6,7 lead partner across on 5 (L hand lowered and partner should not be turning yet), then L hand high to lead partner to turn 1 1/2 counterclockwise (facing each other on 8)
1,2,3 lower L hand and release it while R hand goes high on 1, then do a pivot turn (180 clockwise) to face away from partner (step to left on 3 and R arm towards R)
5,6,7 lead partner forward then turn her with R hand at waist level to turn partner counterclockwise 360 (R foot step to L on 5 to give room for partner to get in front)
1,2,3 L foot step behind R foot to R and L hand is twisting partner counterclockwise slightly on 1 and back to original position on 3 (prepping)
5,6,7 turn partner 360 with R hand
1,2,3 place partner's L hand (with my R hand) on partner's L shoulder, release and R hand should be placed on partner's back (partner's L hand should come back to my shoulder) on 1, then get to cross body lead position (L hand can get partner R hand now or later)
5,6,7 finish cross body lead

Dee would also like me to be less mechanical, but she also says this is not necessary a bad sign for long term. Similar to last week, there were almost twice as many leaders as followers in this rather big class.

Missed Peter's class

March 28, 2005

I did not make it to Peter's class today because of a dinner invitation from an old friend. Dinner menu included a rabbit dish laden with bullets.

Trying out Cristian & Dee Intermediate

March 23, 2005

cross body closed
cross body open change hands to R-R
prep on 1,2,3
get hold of L-L as well as double spin is encouraged (I think single spin should be fine too) for partner on 5,6,7 (note. after the first spin, quickly drop L-L to under R-R... at the end L-L is on top of R-R)
open break on 1
Titanic on side (clockwise 90 for me & anti-clockwise 90 for partner) on 2,3
right hand goes to waist on 4
lead partner to left (left hand up) on 5... 1 1/2 turn counterclockwise for partner on 5,6 but keep left hand low (at 8, L-L should be around and front of partner's waist...also ideally I should be positioned slightly to right of partner while facing the same direction)
get partner's R (R-R) hand on 1 get to cross body lead position with R-R high on 2,3 (footwork is forward on 1, in place and start to turn counterclockwise 90 on 2, opposite direction on 3 as turn is finished)
finish cross body with turn (1 1/2 clockwise?) with R-R high ... while L-L goes to break position leave partner's L hand behind her back left waist...let go after first 1/2 turn and get hold of L-L again behind her back on 5,6,7 ... we're facing each other on 8 [note. this is another place where 1/2 turn would be sufficient]
get to another cross body lead position on 1,2,3 as R-R goes over partner's head on 1 and my R hand goes to partner's back for cross body (keep L-L as is)
lead partner forward on 5, partner does 1 1/2 counterclockwise turn (keep L-L)
do a pivot turn on 1,2,3 (L-L ends up behind my back)
fancy R hand work to loosen L-L ...first goes over and to front right of L-L ...lift L-L from underneath and break L-L ...keep going around ...go under again and raise partner's hand to my R shoulder)
cross body lead open end
back together forward together (Guapeando?) 3 times

Abrazala & Setenta - Peter

March 21, 2005

enchufe-dame without changing partner as usual Monday (1,2,3 - 5,6,7 - 1,2,3 - 5,6,7)
Abrazala
change to R-R hold at the end of cross body lead
[Pimienta-like 1,2,3
turn partner counterclockwise ~1 1/2 on 5,6,7 ... on ~6,7 my (free left hand goes up to avoid tangling) while I make ~90 counterclockwise turn to end up facing same direction as partner and in front and to right of partner - on 8, rest left hand on partner's left shoulder (behind partner's neck)
step backwards on 1,2,3 (as partner moves forward) in a rotation
hook turn (or gradual 360 clockwise turn) on 5,6,7]
enchufe-like 1,2,3
switch hands to croquetta on 5,6,7
to center and back on 1,2,3
croqueta cross-body lead to original position on 5,6,7
Sientala (wrap on 1,2,3 (partner turns counterclockwise) quick up and down & unwrap on 5,6,7) then another enchufe-dame without changing partner
Setenta
open hold at the end of dame
pimienta-like 1,2,3 with both hands & by 4 or even 3, left hand needs to be up & right hand down
on 5, partner does a quick 360 turn ... walk forward to close gap on 6,7
during 1,2,3 unwrap as walkaround is done in clockwise direction
probably need to continue walking clockwise on 5,6,7 as arm lock position is achieved
release arm lock to reach dame (no change in partner) position on 1 and finish dame 2,3 & across on 5,6,7

I did most of this routine among others with Cinzia afterwards. She said she liked it and recommended that I try to be less tense.

Trying out Nelson - Nerve-wrecking adventures at Greens

March 20, 2005

This was my first time with Nelson at new venue, Greens. The fact that it was so fast and that I was unused to this environment meant I couldn't remember what was taught. Unfortunately, sundays are not very convenient so I may not come back for a while.

right hand behind my neck and switch to R-R on 1,2,3
turn clockwise (no need to make it a hook turn) on 5,6,7
switch to L-L on 1,2,3 and go in to cross body position
clockwise 180 turn (or 90?) for partner on 5,6,7
get R-R on 1,2,3 (side to side? or forward and back?) horizontal on bottom while L-L is vertical
counterclockwise turn 360 for partner on 5,6,7
give self hat in-and-out on 1,2,3 (direction?) with R-R while L-L stays horizontal
clockwise turn 360 for partner on 5,6,7
another hat and get back to basic

side(?) prep on 1 for partner's counterclockwise turn with my left hand up on 2,3 (right hand steadies partner at waist level)
...involved a wrap and a double turn

side(?) prep on 1 for partner's counterclockwise turn with my left hand up on 2,3
...?

sequence 4
ugh... never mind...

Ready for 2+ spins? - Johnny & Serap Advanced

March 18, 2005

Cross body lead closed position and end with open
cross body as normal on 1,2,3
pull partner across on 5, turn partner counterclockwise 1 1/2 with left hand up and right hand down to end up wrapping partner
prepare partner on 1,2,3 by slight twist of wrap to left (and counterclockwise)
lead with R hand (at waist!) to get partner to turn clockwise 2 turns with left hand up and fingers down for support (keep L hand steady!!!) on 5,6,7
get to cross body lead position on 1,2,3 (left hand high and right hand holding partners L hand behind her back)
upwrap partner on 5,6,7 (as usual forward on 5 and turn counterclockwise 360 on 6,7)
irregular cross body lead position on 1,2,3 (ending up facing same direction as partner and in front and to right of partner) - pull partner forward on 5 and turn partner (keeping leading R hand low) counterclockwise for a wrap on 6,7
--variation (instead of wrapping ... allow partner to do a free turn counterclockwise - lead forward on 5 and throw hand back and down on 6)
prepare on 1,2,3 (step to right on 1 and twist partner and back on 2,3 ... preferably back right as opposed to forward right on 1)
unwrap partner on 5,6,7 (end up facing same way?)
pull partner forward on 1,2,3 with R arm stretching forwards (same position as partner's L arm)
free spin counterclockwise for partner on 5,6,7

"This is very nice" - Johnny & Serap Intermediate

March 18, 2005

open break on 1, overtake on 2 as partner is scooped up, turn slightly <90 on 3
hook on 5, keep turning on 6 and 7 to get back to original position

[modified on Sep 18, 2005]
The start is essentially Adios con la hermana
open hold
1,2,3 open break on 1 then overtake and close in and get into closed hold (or scoop up partner) on 2,3 - ideally both partners turn as a unit in clockwise for 1/4 to 1/2 rotation overall (I don't always insist on this turn)
5,6,7 placing R foot on hook is optional (I don't always do this right now) as hold becomes open again - L-R is raised while R-L is released and leader walks under the arch on 6,7 and turn counterclockwise to face the follower on 8

1,2,3 Enchufa (note that this is still Adios con la hermana if two routines were combined)
5,6,7 hook turn for leader and change hands to R-R (now it diverges - starting with Enchufa on 1,2,3 this is essentially Evelyn, but next part is something different)
1,2,3 pivot turn 1/2 clockwise (facing away from partner) keeping R-R high and hand horizontal (with leader's palm facing ceiling)
5,6,7 step (large) to right and back lead follower into a full clockwise turn (leading with R-R making a large circular motion high) and turn 1/2 counterclockwise when partner completes turn on 7,8 to face follower (follower's R hand can be placed on leader's L shoulder just before leader's turn and follower's R hand should drop on next beat and should be caught at waist level with leader's L hand)

(The quote for the title was said by the woman who has been coming to the lessons with her husband for quite some time now. She was referring to the second routine.)

Casino Rueda with Helen & Rhona - Beginners #1

March 17, 2005

Guapea (also heard it referred to as Guapeando... This move is never called and can be repeated indefinitely until something more complex is called)
step in place on 1,2,3 (or could stylize) with L-R hold at about 120 angle with partner on your left side
step forward and toward partner on 5 (as partner is doing the same) and push partner and self backwards on 5/6 and get back to position by 7

[note. I think of Guapea as one of the basic and probably the most common starting step of Rueda. Abajo and Pal medio, which we haven't done yet as of week 3, probably would considered basic/default moves as well. There are many more complex moves that starts from Guapea compared to Abajo or Pal medio. Exceptions among beginner moves include Exibela and Dile que no, latter of which is a transition to Guapea starting position. I consider "Dile que no" equivalent to a simple cross body lead.]

Dame
turn to face the next partner on right at a angle (120 or so) on 8
step across partner and back on 1,2,3
move partner across (in front) to my left by leading by shoulder on 5,6,7

Dame dos
get to next partner (2 away) during 1,2,3
move partner across to my left on 5,6,7

Enchufe (stylized)
open hold (to keep partner to face you)
both left foot and left hand to left on 1
turn partner counterclockwise 180 on 2,3 with left hand up (in front of partner's forehead) - right foot to left and to front on 2, turn counterclockwise 180 on 3
walk to next partner on 5,6,7 (right hand over left hand which is positioned across my body as connection with old partner is broken)
move next partner across to my left as in the end of Dame

Enchufe doble
same start as Enchufe ... right hand on partner's left shoulder by no later than start of 3 ... go back to original position on 5,6,7 ... repeat Enchufe except with normal finish

Salute mujeres
Enchufe start on 1,2,3 change hands to R-R on 4 (handshake grip?)
pull partner to original position (facing opposite direction) on 5,6,7 to reach next woman on right
gently push next woman backwards as I move back to the original position on 5,6,7 (to end up where I was on 4)
move (original) partner across and in front of me to my left on 5,6,7 (like the end of Dame except with same partner or the end of Dile que no)

Croqueta
Enchufe start on 1,2,3
change hands to R-R thumb grip (name?) as position is refined (Peter refers to this as accomodating step)
Step to center and back on 1,2,3 (reach out to other leaders doing the same)
move partner across and in front to my left (original Guapea starting position) on 5,6,7

Evelyn
Enchufe start on 1,2,3
Hook turn on 5,6,7 change hands to R-R thumb-Croqueta grip
Step to center and back on 1,2,3 (reach out to other leaders doing the same)
move partner across and in front to my left (original Guapea starting position) on 5,6,7

Sacala variation (e.g. this can interrupt Croqueta or Evelyn as well as more complex moves)
raise R hand after 1,2,3 step to center and back (e.g. second 1,2,3 of Evelyn or Croqueta)
instead of moving partner across, partner moves to center and back doing 3 o'clock turn
end as normal for Croquetta or Evelyn

Sientala
open hold
turn partner 360 counterclockwise with left hand up and keeping hold of right hand - this should end with partner wrapped
kneel down, up and unwrap partner on 5,6,7 if not the end then change partner
kneel down completely if at the end

Vacilala
L-R hold
step away from partner (Peter refers to this as Vimienta) on 1 and back to original position on 2,3 as partner is pulled across and almost overtaking
throw partners hand back (and down!) on 5 to initiate free clockwise turn for partner
catch partners back/shoulder as turn is completed (and to keep partner in position)
finish with dile que no on 1,2,3,5,6,7

Vacilala y cambio (a.k.a vacilara y dame una)
Just like Vacillara except after initiating free turn for partner, move to next partner on right after 7
move your next partner across to your left (to Guapea starting position) on 5,6,7

Adios
open hold
open break on 1, over take on 2, by 3 turn almost facing backwards (clockwise) all while "scooping" up partner to a complementary position
raise L hand to make an arch through which to get to next partner on right on 5,6,7

Adios con la Hermana
same start as Adios up to 4
keep left hand up ... walk under it to and turn clockwise at 7,8 to get to original position
(note: going into hook position on 5 and then to walk in straight line toward the original position was recommended... but I didn't find this easier first time around)
Enchufe on next 1,2,3
"accomodating" 5,6,7
1,2,3 dile que no - cross body lead start
5,6,7 - lead partner back to original position
---
my re-interpretation (may not be correct) (trying to keep steps shorter)
open hold
open break on 1, right foot to left and to front as partner is scooped up on 2, left foot to right and pointing to right on 3 as a small (<90) clockwise turn is completed on 4
right foot in hook position for 5 to help adjustment for straight walk on 6, left foot forward on 6, right foot forward and spin counterclockwise ~180 on 7,8
Enchufe next on 1,2,3
"accomodating" 5,6,7
1,2,3 dile que no - cross body lead start
5,6,7 - lead partner back to original position

Peter explains Kentucky

March 14, 2005

Kentucky (Monday revised ... this finally perfects description of Kentucky tried twice at CDC with Rhona & Helen [corrected on April 3, 2005])
to left (or slightly back) on 1 as left hand prepares
turn partner 360 with left hand up and right hand down to wrap partner on 2,3 - keep left hand from going all the way down and partner should be on your left
move to partner's right on 5,6,7 as left hand moves to partners left shoulder
right hand up as partner does pivot turn counterclockwise on 1,2,3
and my right hand comes back and land on my left shoulder as partner's turn is completed - turn counterclockwise on 5,6,7 as I wrap myself (my right hand should end on my left shoulder doing a neck wrap and partner should still be on my right)
forward and back for cross body on 1,2,3
finish cross body on 5,6,7 moving partner across to my left and turn to face partner on 7,8

Monday Mar 14 Long Routine ... Easy for me now!
Enchufe doble-dame without changing partner
Name ? (involved cross hand Sombrero-like followed by walkaround followed by sombrero)
Another Enchufe doble-dame without changing partner
Sombrero
Kentucky

What was the ending? - Johnny & Serap Advanced

March 11, 2005

standard cross body lead on 1,2,3
turn 90 counterclockwise at the end on 5,6,7 and switch hands R to R
push on 1 (small side step), pull on 2 as I turn 90 clockwise to face the partner and hold partner's left shoulder to prevent partner from turning on 2,3 (partner stays in place... to prevent partner from turning on 2,3 I may need to get her shoulder early)
hook turn on 5,6,7
switch hands to L to R on 1,2,3 as I do a pivot turn (270 clockwise to end at 90 angle to partner will work) (left arm is now wrapped behind my back)
go under the arm to unwrap on 5,6,7 (360 clockwise to upwrap)
turn again 180 to get to mirror image cross body lead position on 1,2,3 (still L-to-R)
partner moves across to my right (!) on 5,6,7 presumably with turning counterclockwise 180 or 1 1/2 while I turn counterclockwise 90 to face same direction as partner with partner on my back with another hand switch to R-to-R
forward and back on 1,2,3
pull partner around on my right and turn partner 180 counterclockwise to face me on 5,6,7
open break (side) on 1,2,3 ... vertical (for lack of better description) cross hold with R-R on top (vertically positioned) of L-L (horizontally positioned)
turn partner clockwise on 5,6,7 end with L-L (vertical) on top of R-R (horizontal)
..then what?

Frustrating but nice - Johnny & Serap Intermediate

March 11, 2005

This was a frustrating session because of poor partner(s). In retrospect, there's a lot of good stuff here.

cross hand basic left hand on top open break then turn 90 counterclockwise as partner is pulled in front facing the same way with arms slightly stretched out on 2,3 (partner is turned counterclockwise 270 (or was it right hand on top and 90 clockwise turn for the partner?)
turn partner (pretty sure it was counterclockwise...how many turns?) ... left hand up ... partner moves across to my left on 5,6,7 (90+ on 5, 90+ on 6, <360 on 7 seems reasonable but it doesn't seem right as they were practicing 180, 180, 270)

[modified September 18, 2005]

Looking at this again, my note above is a somewhat confused (but recognizable) description of Copa (also seen in another of Johnny's class on September 16 as well as in an Ivan & Sally workshop on May 21 (section 2 - under the heading reverse cross body (one of many options) and in one of Sergio's class (I can't find the notes but it started with R-R hold and involved releasing R-R and connecting with L-L on beat 2 at the start of Copa) - I'm leaving the description above crossed out but otherwise as is but will attempt a better description below.

crossed hold with L-L on top
1,2,3 open break on 1, take steps to overtake follower on 2,3 while R-R is used to lead follower forward on the line and L-L goes around in front of follower and then to point the direction in which the follower came from - what happens at beat 4 is like a Titanic position in the middle of the line except unlike in beat 8 ending of Titanic, both dancers feet are set more apart here - also refer to reverse cross body feet position except with follower's R foot stepped forward beyond both leader's feet)
5,6,7 lead follower back to where she came from in a traveling 1 1/2 counterclockwise turn (This is one of many options - as taught in this particular class, the only cue for the follower to go back is a strong pull with L-L - this works with a follower who knows Copa but could be tricky for the uninitiated.)

a smooth cross body
standard 1,2,3 cross body (at 3 left foot could be pointing left)
partner is turned around me counterclockwise as I turn on spot (sort of like hooking pivoted on my left foot)

seanto-like (sientela?)
open position
open break (or maybe step side to left on 1 while pushing) on 1
wrap partner counterclockwise (left hand up) 180 on 2,3 and bringing hands down to partner's waist on 3,4 --- partner should be positioned slightly to my right and very close in front facing the same direction
seat partner on my right leg
- in an end move, could go all the way down with my left leg on its knees for support
- in continuation, a quick dip and up on 5,6 and turn and upwrap on 6,7 and finish with open position on 8

non-dip finish
closed position
using my left hand, toss partners hand towards my shoulder for embrace presumably on 5,6,7

Last CDC Sergio class for the Lent term

March 10, 2005

I completely blanked out on Thurs improver's after hearing that this was the last class of the term.

Thurs Mar 10 Intermediate
open break (sideways to left not back) and get to cross body lead position on 2,3 with left hand up
lead partner forward across on 5,6,7 and turn away (counterclockwise?) from partner and switch hands to R-R
step forward on 1 and back (to left while turning 90 clockwise to get to cross body position) while pulling partner forward and across my on 2,3
turn partner clockwise (?) possibly 2 turns ... this could seem to take forever but wait
on 5,6,7 ...turn 90 counterclockwise to cross body-like position except not facing partner on 8 ... drop partner's R hand from my right shoulder and catch it with my left hand at waist level
to left and back to normal on 1,2,3 while pulling partner to my left ... lose hand and catch partner's hip (?!) -- this is supposedly a cue for partner to turn (counterclockwise) on 5,6,7 ... I should turn counterclockwise slowly to face partner on 6,7,8

changes to walk-a-round (highly problematic?)
get to cross body lead position .. but continue to keep guiding and turning partner to walk around counterclockwise... I don't do any footwork on 5,6 but only keep guiding partner around ... on 7 right foot goes back and to right (partner is way-way to my left at this time)
on 1 left foot goes to hook position (keep guiding partner around) and on 2 I turn slighly 90? counterclockwise but otherwise get to normal standing position on 2,3

Proper Enchufe for a change - CDC Rhona & Helen Intermediate

March 9, 2005

Enchufe note!
I'm not sure why this wasn't done earlier by the instructors ... if they did, I completely missed it for several weeks!
left foot to side on 1 while preparing to turn partner 180! (not 360!) L-R hold only needed
counterclockwise on 2,3 as I walk around on my left and turn 180 to face partner
note. on Friday (and Mauricio), 1 was spent going backwards like open break ... going sideways saves on distance to be traveled on 2 ... this side step was seen to be used on Thurs Mar 10 ... Monday's is even simpler since I travel forward to begin with on 1)
...in any case, what are other options for 5,6,7 other than below?

Longer sequence Weds

Enchufe on 1,2,3 as above (only L-R hold is necessary)
move forward and to left while turning counterclockwise 180 with left hand up on 5,6,7 (I'm facing the same way as partner and in front of partner on 8) - change hand to R-R?
forward and back on 1,2,3 with R??? hand .... down? as I pull partner forward around my left and turn 180
turn partner 360 counterclockwise on 5,6,7 (hat to partner's head on 7,8 and to my head on 8,1)
get to cross body lead position on 1,2,3 (R hand moves to partner's back)
end up with open position ending of cross body lead
step forward on 1 and grab partner's right wrist (right hand already held with my left hand) with my right hand ... free spin partner clockwise(??) as I free spin counterclockwise ... end up with either closed position or ready to cross body position on 4 ... finish as appropriate

A different Coca cola remembered - Peter

Helen & Rhona's Coca cola inspired me to try to remember Peter's variation of Coca cola from couple of weeks ago

R-L hand hold only
left hand goes to partner's right shoulder on 1
my feet goes to cross body like position on 2,3 as before but partner ends up on my left side in this variation... in fact partner does a 1 1/4 counterclockwise turn and my left hand ends up on partner's right hip on 4
on 5,6,7 I think I'm aiming to move to my left while partner walk around me counterclockwise to get to the cross body position on 8
on 1,2,3 go forward and back in preparation for cross body lead
complete cross body lead on 5,6,7

Setenta, Coca cola, Sombrero - CDC Rhona & Helen Improvers

Setenta review
basic open position
normal 1,2,3
left hand up on 4 - partner does pivot turn 180 on 5,6,7 (clockwise) - hold on to right hand and on 7, right hand (holding partner's left hand) should be on partner's left hip on 8
forward on 1 (move partner forward as well using R on hip to lead)
lead partner to turn counterclockwise 180 on 2,3
finish 5,6,7 normally

Coca cola (different from Monday version) - not totally sure
basic? R-L hold only
left hand on partner's right shoulder on 1
my feet goes to cross body like position on 2,3 but partner follows because I'm pulling partner with me from her shoulder -- I think my right hand goes to partner's right hip on 3 - partner is positioned to my right
turn partner counterclockwise 360 leading her on her hip
my footwork is aimed to move back a little on 5,6,7 as partner completes turn (while this makes it slightly more complicated for the leaders, this apparently allows followers more room to maneuver during the turn) ... 5 - R foot to left .6 - L foot back right. 7 - R foot back to catch up with L foot)

Sombrero (much more like Monday version)
cross body lead and end up on open position and change hands R hand on top
(note completion on change hands can be done on next 1,2,3)
step forward (possibly away from partner like Monday?) and back on 1,2,3 as I pull partner across me and have her slighly overtaking me on 4 (DO NOT START turning partner until 5)
turn partner counterclockwise 1 3/4 and end up with sombrero position on 8
at this point drop left hand ... and lower right hand from neck-shoulder position down to partner's back (knowledgeable partner would free her left arm and place it on my shoulder to be more comfortable)
step forward and back for 1,2,3 and get ready for cross body lead
complete cross body lead on 5,6,7

Plenty of time for ladies styling - Johnny & Serap Advanced

March 4, 2005

cross body lead with reverse (counterclockwise) turn (left-to-right)
turn clockwise into cross body lead position, followed by clockwise turn for partner (lead using right hand on partner's shoulder, left hand is up by 3 then moves away from self to make an opening for the partner to move into)
on 7, 8 turn clockwise 90 to face away from partner (hand switch to R-R)
forward on 1, turn clockwise 180 on 2,3 -- get L-L as well under R-R which goes up to get ready to turn partner clockwise
partner turns clockwise on 5,6,7 (now L-L should be up while R-R is down?)
on 1,2,3 turn counterclockwise 180 as left hand goes over my head to back of my neck
on 5 right foot goes to left of left foot and move partner around my right on 6,7 and facing me
on 1 my right hand goes over partner's head and onto shoulder to get to cross body lead position on 2,3 (my left hand is still keeping myself wrapped)
finish cross body lead, pivot on left on 6 (facing left to get ready for self turn)
pivot turn counterclockwise (having control issues) thus unwrapping my left hand and face partner to end on 7,8)
cross body lead 1,2,3 while grabbing partner's left wrist on 3 with my R
pull partner forward on 5, toss a reverse turn on 6,7

Bits and Pieces - Johnny & Serap Intermediate

March 4, 2005

left hand up on 1 for me to do a pivot turn on 2,3 (same as 12 o'clock turn)
keep left hand up on 5 to turn partner on 5,6,7 (3 o'clock turn?)

left hand up on 1 for me to turn 180 (partner faces same direction) on 2,3 - catch partner's right hand on 2 or 3 with right after the turn (while keeping it as long as possible before the turn?)
side to side on 5,6,7 (slightly to right on 5) as left hand goes over head to the left side and down to find my right hand -- both of partner's hand are taken by my right hand
step away and turn back on 1,2,3 ... by 4 right hand is up
turn partner clockwise on 5,6,7

also did a so-called funny way to initiate cross body with reverse turn (done on Thurs... after doing a more typical cross body with a turn)

Longer than Titanic-like - CDC Sergio Intermediate

March 3, 2005

right to right cross body lead
turn partner 360 counterclockwise & stop partner from turning further in part by holding partner's left shoulder with left hand
slight forward-left and back on 1,2,3 (slight up and down prep with arm!)
turn partner counterclockwise 360 on 5,6,7 while crossing right foot over left
right hand goes behind my neck on 7,8 as I hook-turn counterclockwise
on 1, drop hand and quickly catch partner's dropped hand at heart position as I move to fact partner face to face
on 2, get to normal cross body lead position
on 3, like cross body lead position except left foot is pointing left
on 5, right foot goes over left foot and pointing left (partner is right behind?)
on 6,7 continue turning counterclockwise as hand is dropped and end up facing partner face to face again

New entry into cross body lead - CDC Sergio Improvers

March 3, 2005

R-R cross body
lead partner forward on 5, spin partner counterclockwise 180 on 6 (hand down?), and another counterclockwise 360 on 7 with hand up
when partner is done with 1/2 turn on 7 (180), turn self clockwise 270 to face partner face to face in open break position

open break ... on 3 left foot goes to forward and to right while right hand tosses partners (left?) hand up in air while holding partner's right hand with my left hand
turn 180 counterclockwise on 5,6,7(?) and get partner to do the same at same timing as the end of cross body lead

a new way of going into cross body lead --
left hand up on 1 as I turn clockwise and move to right to get toward cross body lead position
left hand to in front of my neck(??) as I turn 180 to get to cross-body lead position on 2, 3
lead partner forward on 5 (left hand kept up, then move away from self to make an opening for partner to walk through)
lead partner to turn clockwise (!) by proper hand lead

Wraps and another Sombrero - CDC Rhona & Helen Intermediate

March 2, 2005

No name

1,2,3,5,6,7. cross body lead ending in open position (L-R hold only)
1. pull first to lead partner towards me then push to wrap partner (partner turns clockwise)
2,3. while I move slightly to right and forward to end next to partner hip-to-hip) as wrap is completed
5,6,7. pull to unwrap as I step back on 5
1,2,3. get to cross body lead position on
5.6.7. complete cross body lead again ending with open position
1,2,3,4. repeat except right hand on partner's right shoulder on 3,4 (for optional help in turn)
5,6.7. unwrap on 5 and raise hand (left hand) for another turn by partner (anticlockwise turn) thus ending in open position
1,2,3. could wrap myself by moving forward and left while turning counterclockwise

3 variations to get out
opt. 1 unwrap self (while getting the other hand and keeping it raised)
opt. 2 go back and underneath
opt. 3 switch hand on 3 (use right hand to get partner's right - note. I was using my left hand to wrap myself) and get partner's left hip using my left hand and spin partner clockwise

Another "Sombrero"-like
crossed hands hold with R hand on top!
1,2,3. step to forward left on 1 and pull partner to my right side while turning her clockwise 180 or so
5,6,7. turn partner clockwise 180 with my right hand ending up behind partner's neck while my left hand ends up behind my neck
1,2,3,5,6,7. drop hands and initiate and complete cross body lead

Kentucky (again) and Setenta were done but my descriptions were mangled upon review (as noted week after and beyond) and were not kept. Improved versions were recorded later so look for those instead.
